A 24-year-old Cedartown woman is facing multiple charges after a reported domestic disturbance involving an infant at a North Main Street motel, according to law enforcement. Officers were dispatched to 1004 N. Main St. after a 911 caller reported a heated altercation between two adults, stating that a baby was present and may have been struck during the incident. The caller described a shirtless white female and a Black male arguing and allegedly throwing objects, including baby toys, at each other.
Upon arrival, officers located both individuals and a baby inside a motel room. Authorities reported the room was in disarray, with beer bottles scattered across the floor, and the infant was found crying on the bed.
The female was identified as Mikayla McKenzie Shirey of Cedartown. Both Shirey and the male initially told officers the incident was only a verbal argument. Shirey reportedly stated that both she and the male struggle with alcohol.
While officers were investigating, a witness approached and reported seeing the couple outside the motel room arguing and physically fighting. The witness stated that Shirey was without a shirt and observed her striking both the male and the infant with a baby seat before the pair moved out of view.
Officers later reviewed surveillance footage from the property, which they said showed Shirey shirtless in the parking lot and striking the male and the child with a bouncy seat.
Arrangements were made for the infant to be picked up by a family member. Once the child was safely removed from the scene, Shirey and the male were taken into custody.
Authorities said both individuals were transported in separate patrol vehicles to the Polk County Jail without incident. While at the jail, officers observed that Shirey had an abrasion on the left side of her face.
Shirey is charged with public indecency, battery, third-degree cruelty to children, and public drunkenness.
