Residents gathered at Ridge Ferry Park this weekend for the 2026 Heart of the Community Heart Walk, presented by AdventHealth Redmond in partnership with TRED, bringing together families, friends and local leaders for a morning focused on health, connection and celebration.

Participants met near the ECO Center, where volunteers welcomed guests with complimentary coffee and hot chocolate as the event kicked off. The crowd also recognized this year’s Heart of the Community award recipients, honoring individuals and organizations for their service and positive impact across Rome and Floyd County.

After the brief ceremony, walkers and cyclists set out along the AdventHealth Redmond ECO Greenway, taking advantage of the scenic trail for a heart-healthy stroll or bike ride. Children, seniors and fitness groups alike joined in, creating a steady flow of activity along the path throughout the morning.

Organizers said the event was designed to encourage both physical wellness and community spirit. The nearby ECO Center remained open during the walk, giving attendees the chance to stop in, explore exhibits and learn more about local environmental and recreation programs.

Despite overcast skies, the free event drew a strong turnout and continued rain or shine as planned. Community partners said they hope the annual walk will keep growing, offering residents an easy and welcoming way to stay active while celebrating the people who make a difference in the region.

“This is about more than just walking,” one organizer said. “It’s about bringing the community together and promoting healthy hearts in every sense.”
