Kristi Deann Skaggs, 41, and her husband, Wayne Spencer Swingle, 42, both of Plainville, have been arrested after gaming machines were damaged at a Calhoun convenience store, according to police.

Calhoun police officers responded just before 7 a.m early last week to a report of an armed robbery in progress at the Circle K located at 943 Highway 53. When officers arrived, they learned the call stemmed from damage discovered inside the store rather than a robbery.

The store manager told police he had logged into the store’s security camera system earlier that morning and noticed the gaming machines had been damaged. After reviewing the footage, the manager said he saw employee Kristi Skaggs and two men damaging the machines before leaving the store.

Police said Skaggs and the two men left the scene in a white Ford F-250. One of the men was later identified as Skaggs’ husband, Wayne Swingle.

Skaggs and Swingle were arrested later that day and initially charged with theft by taking and first-degree criminal damage to property. Both were booked into the Gordon County Jail.

Police said a third suspect, described as an unidentified Black male, left the gas station in a different vehicle. Investigators were able to record the license plate of that vehicle, and the investigation is ongoing.
