Transitions Hospice Care is launching a new monthly gathering for veterans at the Rome-Floyd County Library beginning Thursday, Dec. 11, at 9:30 a.m. The program, called Veterans Coffee & Company, is designed to foster connection, conversation, and community support among local veterans. Meetings will run from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and no registration is required.
The initiative is organized by Transitions Hospice Care, a veteran-owned organization established in 2003. The group participates in We Honor Veterans, a national program that partners with hospice providers to address the unique needs of veterans and ensure they receive appropriate care and resources.
Although hospice care is often associated solely with end-of-life services, organizers emphasize that it focuses on enhancing quality of life throughout a person’s medical journey. Many veterans, they note, are not enrolled in the VA and may be unaware of available benefits, whether through Medicare or veteran-specific programs.
The new monthly gathering aims to create a relaxed space where veterans can socialize, exchange experiences, and learn about available support services. The first meeting will be informal, allowing organizers to gauge which topics and resources participants would like to explore in future sessions. Over time, the program is expected to evolve based on the interests and needs of those who attend.
The goal is to provide a welcoming environment where veterans can share stories, discuss benefits for themselves and their families, and learn about grief support, healthcare options, and other assistance. Rather than structured presentations, the meetings will focus on small-group conversations that allow for more personal and relevant guidance.
Veterans Coffee & Company will continue on the second Thursday of each month at the Rome-Floyd County Library, located at 205 Riverside Parkway NE. Organizers hope the series will offer both fellowship and appreciation for the veterans of the community.
