Velta Yvonne Rule, 56 of Dalton, was jailed in Rome this week for a hit-and-run crash on Highway 101 Sunday that left a bicyclist seriously injured.
Reports said that investigators determined that Rule failed to maintain her lane, crossing over the white line and striking a bicyclist. The victim sustained significant injuries, including a broken hip, a concussion, and a possible brain bleed.
Officials report that Rule left the scene following the collision. She was later located by law enforcement and was found to be impaired at the time of the incident.
Rule is charged with hit and run, serious injury by vehicle, DUI and failure to maintain lane.
