A Summerville woman was arrested, and another is being sought after a violent home invasion and assault last last month. Whitney Celeste Barrett, age 37, was arrested and faces charges of First-Degree Burglary, Battery, and Third-Degree Cruelty to Children. Authorities issued warrants for Brandy Smith, who has similar charges related to the incident.
Deputies responded to a 911 call indicating a domestic dispute at a home on James Street around 11:29 PM. Upon arrival, they found a broken window and a man named Christopher Henderson with injuries, who refused medical help. Henderson reported that Smith and Barrett forcefully entered his home and attacked him.
Video evidence from a security camera showed Smith and Barrett arriving in a black Mitsubishi, breaking the window, and physically confronting Henderson. The footage also showed a struggle for Henderson’s dog, which they attempted to take. Barrett later claimed she did not know their intentions and only went inside to help Smith during the altercation.
Barrett was taken to jail, and warrants were issued for Smith.
The damaged door repair will cost around $700, and the investigation continues.
