A Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy, Ben Watson, was injured in an automobile accident while working on patrol Thursday morning. The report said that Watson was traveling eastbound on Highway 178 when he approached the intersection of the western ramp of Highway 27 in Cedartown. Another vehicle awas traveling west on Highway 278 when they turned south, traveling across the path of Deputy Watson’s vehicle..
At this time, it appeared as if Watson attempted to take evasive action to avoid a collision with this vehicle. Watson’s car then struck a stop sign at the intersection. He then proceeded to strike a second vehicle that was yielding onto to Highway 27 eastbound traffic. Watson’s vehicle continued off of the shoulder of the roadway and into a culvert, and ultimately came to rest after hitting an embankment.
Watson was transported to Advent Redmond with injuries. No other parties were injured.
The vehicle that turned onto the path of Watson left the scene. Sheriff Johnny Moats has asked that anyone with information on the vehicle to call the Sheriffs office at 770-749-2901.
