Mrs. Melanie “Mel” Denson Wright, age 60, of Floyd County, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at a local hospital.
Born on October 7, 1964, in Floyd County, Melanie was the daughter of the late JC and Dawn Denson. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Rusty Denson.
A devoted wife, educator, and woman of deep faith, Melanie was married to the love of her life, Van Wright, for nearly 39 years. Their bond was one of steadfast love, laughter, and mutual support—a beautiful example to all who knew them.
Melanie, affectionately known as “Mel” by friends and family, earned her Master of Arts in English Education and dedicated 35 years to teaching. She had a remarkable gift for reaching her students and a passion for literature and learning. Her long career in education left an enduring mark on the lives of countless young people.
She is survived by her husband, Van Wright; her mother-in-law, Nancy Wright; brothers-in-law Rusty Wright (Debra) and Todd Wright (Carolyn); sisters-in-law Brandi Edwards and Mary Denson; nieces Hailey Bradford (Jeff), Keelie Denson, and Megan Seabolt (Wesley); nephews Dawson Edwards (Lindsey) and Trewin Wright; and great-nieces Rainee Edwards and Brylee Bradford. She adored her family and found joy in every moment spent with them.
Melanie was known for her strong Christian faith, quick wit, and fun-loving spirit. She loved God, her family, her students, and cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs. Whether crafting, reading, or lighting up a room with her sassy sense of humor, Melanie made every moment count. Her presence brought joy to those around her, and her legacy of love and kindness will live on.
Her favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 40:31:
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel with Drew Carroll officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Pallbearers will include Aaron Carroll, Wesley Seabolt, Terry Morgan, Rusty Wright, Todd Wright, and Kevin Ellis.
Melanie Denson Wright lived a life of purpose, faith, and compassion. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
