Ian Galex Hays, 41 of Cartersville, was jailed in Rome after reports said he obstructed officers and damaged their equipment during his arrest.
Police said that Hays was being taken into custody after refusing commands to exit his mother’s vehicle. Officers said that they were dispatched to a home on Beech Creek Drive in response to Hays having a “psychotic episode. Reports added that Hays was running through neighbor’s backyards before getting into his mother’s vehicle.
Police went on to say that after Hays refused to exit the vehicle while holding down the car locks. After gaining entry into the vehicle, Hays continued to fight with officers, in the process damaging a tourniquet holder to the point that it could not longer be secured.
Hays then attempted to run away on foot before finally being contained.
Hays is charged with felony interference with government property and obstruction.
