A Summerville man was arrested earlier this month after allegedly causing a loud public disturbance that drew complaints from neighbors on Maplewood Drive.
According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Rodney Marvin Hines was taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Deputies were dispatched to 112 Maplewood Drive shortly before 3 p.m. after reports of a possible domestic incident. Upon arrival, Corporal Jared Wilks overheard a female resident say, “he’s got one last time to call us the ‘N’ word.”
The woman told deputies that Hines had been loudly speaking to himself, claiming strangers were following him and admitting to being a “meth user and crack user.” A male neighbor said the disturbance had been ongoing since the night before and was loud enough to be heard from about 100 yards away.
Cpl. Wilks located Hines at his apartment, where he noted a strong odor of alcohol. Hines admitted to having “one beer,” though deputies described much of his speech as “nonsense and rambling.” The apartment manager also reported that Hines had been “loud and boisterous outside” before retreating inside prior to officers’ arrival.
