A Bartow County woman is recovering after being seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident early Sunday morning that left her trapped and hidden from view for nearly 14 hours.

Deborah Ruth Pilcher, 72, was driving southbound on Folsom Road around 4:30 a.m. on August 3 when she lost control of her Hyundai Sonata on a curve in the rain. According to the Georgia State Patrol, her vehicle left the roadway, struck a guardrail, flipped into a culvert, and collided with a group of trees before coming to rest out of sight from passing traffic.

The crash went undetected for most of the day. Pilcher remained trapped in the wreckage until approximately 6:30 p.m., when Bartow County firefighter Lt. Matthew Atkins—who was bicycling in the area—noticed something unusual and stopped to investigate. He discovered the vehicle and quickly called 911.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after and worked to free Pilcher from the vehicle. She was transported by LifeForce helicopter to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, where she was admitted to the trauma ICU with serious injuries.

Family members have expressed gratitude for the rescue efforts and have shared updates on social media, though her current condition remains unclear.
