The Community Resource Center of Chattooga County (CRC Chattooga) has issued an urgent call to local churches, appealing for volunteers to help sustain its vital food distribution program. With 13 monthly events providing essential food assistance to residents in need, the nonprofit says it’s at risk of being forced to cancel distributions due to a lack of staff.
To keep operations running smoothly, CRC Chattooga is seeking help from the faith community, asking 26 churches to commit to sending small volunteer teams—just 3 to 5 members—for one four-hour shift per month. According to organizers, this modest commitment could ensure every distribution day is fully staffed and no family goes without food.
“This is a practical, powerful way churches can serve the community directly,” said a spokesperson for CRC Chattooga. “If just a few churches step up, we can make sure hope stays on the menu.”
Each month, CRC hosts 13 separate food distribution events, offering critical resources to families across the county. The need is great, but so is the challenge of recruiting enough volunteers to manage logistics, packaging, and distribution.
The nonprofit has created two volunteer opportunities:
- Manna Morning Volunteers – For morning shifts
- Afternoon Angels of Service – For afternoon distributions
The time commitment is small—just four hours once a month—but the impact is significant. “This is about more than food,” CRC leaders emphasize. “It’s about dignity, support, and community.”
CRC Chattooga is encouraging churches to sign up online or reach out directly for more information. With the help of local congregations, the organization hopes to build a sustainable volunteer network that ensures no distribution day is ever missed.
