A Cedartown man is facing a series of criminal charges after allegedly stealing lawn equipment from a local resident who had permitted him to use it while on vacation. Phillip David Hood, 50, was arrested and charged with theft by deception, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects, driving on a suspended license, and a tag light violation.
According to a police report, the incident began when the victim reported to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office that his push mower and weed eater had been stolen from his property on Olive Street.
The victim told authorities that while he was away on vacation, Hood contacted him via Facebook Messenger, offering to cut his grass. The victim agreed and told Hood he could use his mower and weed eater, which were at his home. Upon returning, the victim discovered both pieces of equipment were missing. He reviewed footage from his Ring doorbell camera and observed Hood loading the mower and weed eater into the bed of a gray Chevrolet S10 pickup truck.
The victim was able to recover his lawn mower from a residence on Airplane Road where Hood was reportedly staying, but the weed eater remains missing.
