Heith Hadden Swanson, 42 of Rome, was arrested this week after police said they found him in possession of drugs after leading them on a high-speed chase on the Loop near Fairhaven Drive.
Police said that they attempted to stop Swanson after clocking him driving 83 mph in a 60 mph zone. However, after initiating blue lights, Swanson proceeded to speed away for several miles without stopping.
Swanson then allegedly refused to exit the vehicle before pulling out a glass smoking device that was found to contain meth and throwing it away.
Swanson is charged with DUI, speeding, driving on a suspended license, attempting to elude police, possession of methamphetamine and drug related objects.
