Chief Denise Downer-McKinney announced that an assessor from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) will visit Rome from June 23–26, 2025, to review the Rome Police Department.

The visit is part of a regular assessment to ensure the department continues to meet CALEA’s high standards in policies, operations, and services. CALEA accreditation is a voluntary process that recognizes professionalism in law enforcement.

The public and department staff are encouraged to submit written comments about the department’s performance. Comments can only be made through CALEA’s online portal at www.romepolice.com.

During the visit, assessors—experienced law enforcement professionals from other states—will review records, interview staff, and observe daily operations. Their findings will be reported to CALEA, which will decide if the department should be reaccredited. If approved, accreditation lasts four years, with ongoing reviews.
