Jackie Levon Smith, 53 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he fought with police after getting caught shoplifting from Family Dollar on Maple Road.
Reports said that Smith was approached after he allegedly stole $245.67 worth of items.
Police stated that when they approached him he physically fought them off.
Smith is charged with felony obstruction, theft by shoplifting and probation violation.
