AdventHealth Redmond and Atrium Health Floyd received lower marks in the Spring 2025 Hospital Safety Guide, a biannual report from The Leapfrog Group that evaluates hospitals nationwide on their ability to prevent harm to patients.

Redmond, which had previously maintained a string of “A” ratings, was downgraded to a “B” this spring. While the hospital continued to score well in surgical safety and error prevention, it underperformed in preventing infections and patient falls. Communication and overall patient care were rated as average.

Atrium Health Floyd, which earned top marks throughout 2023, received a “C” in the latest report—unchanged from its Fall 2024 grade. The Rome hospital was praised for its care team’s communication and responsiveness, but fell short in areas like infection control, fall prevention, and surgical outcomes.

Nearby, AdventHealth Gordon in Calhoun and Piedmont Cartersville also received “B” grades. Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton joined Atrium Floyd with a “C.” Atrium Health Polk was not included due to its small size.

Statewide, only 19 of 79 Georgia hospitals received an “A.” Georgia’s overall ranking has slipped dramatically, from 15th in the nation in 2019 to 35th this year.

“Preventable errors are still a major concern,” said Liz Coyle, executive director of Georgia Watch. “Hospitals must make safety a core priority for every patient, every time.”
