During the regular meeting of the Leesburg Town Council Monday afternoon, the purchase of a new Chevrolet Tahoe in the amount of $52,685 was approved from Donohoo Chevrolet. They were the only bidder. This vehicle replaces a vehicle that was totaled in a wreck last month. The insurance paid the Town $35,146 for the wrecked vehicle and some equipment.

The Council also approved the purchase of equipment to replace what was damaged in the auto accident which includes a card reader, tough book computer, dash camera and a watch belonging to the officer involved.

Classes for the Police Chief and Officers during the year were approved. Chief Brisendine told the Council this would get the department up to date on the required training for the department.

The purchase of ammunition for the police department was approved in the amount of $1748. Chief Brisendine said this is for training purposes and will include two different calibers.

Chief Brisendine also read a Letter of Commendation for Officer Frank DeHaro who went above and beyond the call of duty in a situation in December which exemplified courage and sound decision making in defusing a dangerous situation which involved a person threatening Police Officers and others.  The Results was no one was injured and the situation handled in a professional manner.

The Council approved an ad in the Alabama Magazine in the amount of $322 and a flag and standoff for the flag in the amount of $300, and a pitcher’s mound for the ball field in the amount of $1800.

The Town Hall will be closed for the remainder of the week for employees to attend a training conference.
