An investigation is underway into an alleged physical altercation on Monday, March 3rd that involved Chattooga County Commissioner Andy Allen. According to reports from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to 422 Little Sand Mountain Rd. at approximately 7:12 AM in response to a report of a domestic dispute.
The initial responding deputy, Julian Smith, requested his supervisor, Deputy Nicole Flood, accompany him to the scene due to information suggesting Commissioner Allen’s involvement. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with William Wilson of Kentucky and Andy Allen of Summerville. Mr. Wilson alleges that Mr. Allen opened his truck door and attempted to pull him out while he was backing up. A witness, Gabrielle Wilson, corroborated this account, stating that Mr. Allen approached their truck, opened the door, and tried to forcibly remove her husband. Mrs. Wilson reportedly recorded a portion of the incident.
The recording allegedly depicts Mr. Allen returning to his truck and Mr. Wilson attempting to exit his vehicle, prompted by his wife to remain inside. In the recording, Mr. Allen can be heard allegedly saying, “The best thing you can do is get your ass back in the truck and back on in there you understand me.” Mrs. Wilson claims she also heard Mr. Allen assert his position as commissioner and state that he “ran things around here.” Deputies documented the incident, including photographing Mr. Wilson’s shirt, which he reportedly allowed.
Sheriff Mark Schrader of Chattooga County released a statement on Tuesday acknowledging the incident and announcing a request for an independent investigation by the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. “Yesterday morning, shortly before 8 AM, deputies were dispatched to Little Sand Mountain road regarding a dispute between two people… Based on the allegations that were made and in the interest of transparency, I have asked Sheriff Steve Wilson of Walker County for assistance by having his office investigate the incident,” Schrader stated. He cited potential conflicts of interest as the reason for requesting the external investigation. The Walker County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Steve Wilson, will now conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations.
Further information is expected to be released upon the completion of their investigation.
