With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Marable, who left us on February 28th, 2025, at the age of 75. Richard was born on March 23rd, 1949, in Rome, Georgia, to Hampton Marable and Evelyn Wood Marable.

Throughout his life, Richard exemplified kindness, humor, optimism, and generosity. He lived a full life, earning his master’s in special education, and worked in the Rome City and Floyd County School Systems, teaching and coaching for 30 years. Richard was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 1990, where he faithfully served for 12 years. He also owned and operated the Balloon Factory with his wife, Kathie. One of his most notable accomplishments was teaching swimming lessons for the past 49 years. Richard was a member of Oak Hill Church of Christ, where he served in the past as a deacon.

Richard had a profound impact on those who knew him, and his legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. He was a loving father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, and a friend to all. He is preceded in death by his father, Hampton Marable, his mother, Evelyn Wood Marable, and countless aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: His wife of 56 years, Kathie Loftin Marable; his children J.J. Marable Childs, Benjamin Richard and Andrea Marable, and MacKenzie and Wil Getchell; his grandchildren Reece and Jacklyn Bryant, Mara Bryant and Tyson Betts, Ballard and Bowen Childs, and Camila Marable; along with 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his older brother, Meryl Wood Marable.

A receiving of friends and celebration of life will be held at Oak Hill Church of Christ on Saturday, March 8th, 2025. The receiving of friends will be held from 1-3 PM, with the celebration of life following. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Richard.

Richard will be remembered with love and fondness, and his memory will forever be a part of our hearts.
