The Floyd County Commission has approved a 15 percent increase in water rates, which will go into effect April .
According to Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord, the decision follows a significant rise in the costs associated with running the water department.
McCord aid that rates have not been raised since 2014. McCord explained. “The 15 percent increase applies to residential water rates, while tap fees will go up by about 18 percent, which we’ve rounded to the nearest dollar. This means residential rates will rise from $3.75 to $4.31 per thousand gallons, and commercial rates will go from $3.12 to $3.40 per thousand gallons. Residential customers will still receive the first 2,000 gallons as part of their base fee.”
For an average household using 5,000 gallons per month, the rate increase will amount to an additional $3.92.
