Polk School District announced Friday that they will opt in to Georgia House Bill 581, a measure designed to enhance transparency and allow local taxpayers a greater voice in how public resources are managed and utilized.

PSD BOE Chairperson, Britt Madden said, “Maintaining the balance of providing the beset learning experience possible for our students while still adhering the desire to keep property taxes low for Polk County taxpayers has never been more challenging. Your local school board and the amazing team at Polk School District are doing all that it can to sustain our efforts toward delivering our mission effectively every day.  While 581 is another example of a challenge to overcome, we willingly endeavor to do so for the benefit of all we serve”.

HB 581 introduces a statewide floating homestead exemption that limits annual property tax assessment increases to the rate of inflation, as determined by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
