Skyler Redden, a 31 year-old Rome man, has died after being hit by a vehicle on Highway 53 close to Dempsey Road on Thursday.
Floyd County Police and other emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, where the incident caused inbound traffic lanes into Rome to be blocked for several hours.
Traffic was rerouted onto West Hermitage and then back onto Calhoun Road.
Preliminary details from Floyd County Police Public Affairs Officer Mike Bell indicate that two pedestrians were walking alongside Highway 53 when the accident took place.
A 2nd pedestrian was also stuck but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the event is ongoing.
