A dramatic rescue unfolded on Thursday afternoon after a female driver found herself trapped in a vehicle that had overturned and submerged in the Chattooga River. According to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader, emergency services were dispatched at 3:44 PM to the intersection of Centerpost Road and Giles Road following reports from the public that a woman was calling for help from inside her vehicle.

Upon their arrival, sheriff’s deputies were met with a scene of urgency as Chief Andy Rowe of the Teloga Fire Department, alongside firefighters from Trion, Trion Police Officers, and Atrium Floyd EMS, quickly initiated a rescue operation. The vehicle was discovered on its side, partially submerged in the rushing waters of the river. Thanks to the swift actions of emergency personnel, rescuers were able to access the trapped female. They successfully lifted her from the vehicle, using coordinated efforts to hoist her to safety with a rope. Local citizens also joined the efforts, showcasing the community’s willingness to assist in times of crisis. Once rescued, the victim received immediate medical attention and was transported by EMS personnel for further treatment.

Sheriff Schrader expressed gratitude to all those involved in the rescue, particularly acknowledging the Chattooga E-911 Dispatch team for their efficient coordination of the response. Special thanks were also extended to Hays C.I. Fire and retired Georgia DNR/Chattooga County Deputy Sheriff Tim Gilbreath for his vital assistance during the operation.
