Citizens in the City of Rome could soon see a 5 and a half percent rate increase on their water and sewer bills in 2025 and 2026 following a recommendation by consultant Bill Zieburtz with Stantec this week.

If approved by the Rome city Commission the average bill based on 4,500 gallons used would go from $68.89 to $72.67 a month.

He also recommended a retake of the rates following the completion of the new $459  million reverse osmosis treatment facility.

The Water and Sewer Departments are funded entirely from customers and get no help from government funds.

The water and sewer committee voted to go with the consultant’s recommendation.

Rome City Commissioners are expected to vote on the increase December 16.
