After back and forth discussion, the Rome Alcohol Control Commission recommended to end all future variances to the city’s 50/50 food to drink sales ratio.

Businesses in Rome have to sell equal amounts of liquor to beer/wine in order to have a pouring license.

Several businesses have found ways around the law, but that will not be the case going forward.

The recommendation is expected to make provisions for three businesses (Alibi Prohibition and Combat Market, Elevation Cigar House and Old Havana Cigar Bar) who should be deemed grandfathered in.

One of the initial debates was whether or not these businesses would be able to transfer their licenses to another location or owner.  Under the previous proposal, they would not have.

A recommendation will also be made to ban the use of mobile food trucks as a way for a business to reach food-to-drink ratio compliance.

The City Commission will again look at the recommendation in January.
