On Thursday evening, Floyd County deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant in the 200 block of Pearson Road.
Upon the resident of the home opening the door, a pit bull aggressively lunged at one of the deputies, biting him on the upper leg.
The dog briefly released but then attempted to lunge again, at which point the dog was shot and killed.
The injured deputy received medical treatment at a local hospital and was later released.
