Jerry Wayne Payne, 51 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he punched a 53 year-old woman in the face.
Reports indicated that the victim suffered a blackened eye from the attack.
The incident occurred at a home on Watters Street.
Payne is charged with battery.
