Daniel Johnson Fortenberry, 49 of Rome, was arrested on drug charges after leading police on a high-speed chase.
Reports said that when they initiated their blue lights, Fortenberry fled away at a high rate of speed. Officers said that they initiated the stop after observing him driving the wrong way down West 1st Street.
During the chase, Fortenbery is accused of running a red-light.
Fortenberry eventually stopped and ran away on foot. A search of his vehicle resulted in officers finding marijuana.
They also discovered that he had been driving on a suspended license.
Fortenberry is charged with possession of marijuana, driving on a suspended registration, obstruction, driving on a suspended license, failure to appear, driving without insurance, reckless driving, failure to obey traffic control devices, failure to maintain lane, too fast for conditions, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, license plate violation, operation of vehicles on approach of an emergency vehicle.
