The Rome Police Department received information this morning regarding a threat on social media involving Rome Middle School. The school was put into a precautionary lockdown because of the threat.
After investigating the threat, with the help of Rome City Schools, the authorities identified and arrested a 14-year-old student at Rome Middle School responsible for the threat. After the arrest was made, the precautionary lockdown was lifted at Rome Middle and Rome High School.
“We take all threats to our schools seriously. There is a no-tolerance policy to anyone threatening violence or harm at a school. These threats are not jokes, and the Rome Police Department will take appropriate action,” Rome City Police Chief Denise Downer-McKinney said.
