Bartow County deputies arrested a man in a homeless camp off Peeples Valley Road and Guyton Industrial Road in Cartersville on this week after a bloody machete attack.
Just north of the incident location on Peeples Valley Road, a deputy located a shirtless male wearing black pants and boots, later identified as 52-year-old Jamie Lamar Dyer. Jamie stated he was just in an altercation where another man attempted to assault him with a machete. Jamie reportedly had a small scratch on the left side of his face, left shoulder, and right bicep, which did not appear to be substantial enough to have come from a machete.
Another deputy located a witness to the incident, who stated that Jamie attempted to go into her tent recently, and her husband approached Jamie to tell him to stay away from her. The woman said things escalated between the two men when Jamie picked up two machetes in each hand and came at her husband swinging the machetes. She stated that her husband attempted to punch Jamie and fell. Jamie reportedly stood over him, striking him repeatedly with both machetes. The woman said that when she told Jamie she was calling 911, Jamie swung the machetes at her but missed before he ran away from the incident location.
The victim ended up at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center with a severe laceration to both shoulders, a severe laceration to the left side of his face and ear, a severe laceration to his right hand, almost severing his fingers, and a severe laceration to his right wrist, cutting approximately halfway through his wrist.
Jamie Lamar Dyer received a charge of aggravated assault and two charges of aggravated battery and possession of a knife during the commission of certain crimes.
