Bartow County deputies arrested 32-year-old Jelani Jose Moro-Quiles of Cartersville during a felony traffic stop late last week after his alleged involvement in a violent domestic disturbance at his residence on Gentry Drive west of Cartersville between Friday night and Saturday morning. The alleged victim had told deputies that he was possibly driving around looking for her.

She reached Bartow County Fire Station 3 on Euharlee Road near Cliff Nelson Road. She said that during an argument that turned physical, Jelani took her phone and keys, pulled her hair, threw her against the wall and onto the ground, and pinned her, causing bruises on both of her biceps, before placing his hands on her neck and strangling her to the point that she could not breathe until he stopped. She stated that she attempted to leave the bedroom, but he used physical force to keep her in the room. She said that hours later, when Jelani fell asleep, she packed up as many of her things as she could and left.

Over the phone, the victim’s sister said that while at the residence during that time, she heard what sounded like a slap, followed by a loud thud, as if someone had fallen.

The reporting deputy at the traffic stop arrest stated that the odor of marijuana emanated from Jelani and his vehicle and that his eyes, slurred speech, and lethargic mannerisms made it apparent that he was under the influence of drugs to the point that he was unsafe to drive.

Jelani Jose Moro-Quiles received charges of aggravated assault, battery, false imprisonment, stalking, sexual battery, criminal trespass, hindering a person from making an emergency telephone call, and driving under the influence of drugs.
