John Austin Weatherby, 24 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he grabbed a cellphone belonging to a 24 year-old woman and slammed it to the ground causing it to break.
The cellphone was valued at just under $600.
Weatherby is charged with 2nd degree criminal damage to property.
