A three vehicle accident on Ga 20 (Alabama Highway) near Halls Valley Road and the Alabama state in Coosa line has resulted in two individuals being killed just before 9 am Saturday.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, an eastbound 2023 Acura, white in color, driven by 38 year-old Jamie Smith, of Birmingham, crossed into the westbound lane where it struck an 18-wheeler truck.  The impact then caused the tractor-trailer to travel into the eastbound lane where it struck a third vehicle, a 2020 Nissan Altima, black in color. The driver of the Altima, 31 year-old Ashley Jackson, and a passenger 18-year-old Rico Jermaine English, both of Birmingham, were killed.

The driver of the Acura and tractor-trailer were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Smith has now been transported to the Floyd County Jail where she was booked in for DUI and two counts of homicide by vehicle, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, distracted hands-free law violation, driving on wrong side of roadway and failure to maintain lane.

Check back as more information becomes available.
