Timothy Edward Lary, 26 of Rome, was arrested this week after he was accused of murdering his 70 year-old stepmother.
Police said that Lary used a cigarette lighter to ignite a mattress inside the victim’s Addington Court home while she was inside.
Two dogs and a cat were also killed in the home fire.
Lary’s father was also injured in the fire.
Lary is charged with murder, two counts aggravated assault, arson and criminal damage to property.
