Armuchee Elementary and Pepperell Elementary Schools opted to participate in the inaugural FCS Reading Bowl this school year.
The FCS Reading Bowl was open to fourth-grade students this school year. This reading initiative was developed to increase student achievement and reading comprehension, help students develop a deeper appreciation for literature, enhance verbal communication skills, promote cooperation, build self-esteem, and develop team spirit.
Throughout the school year, the media specialists and teacher volunteers met with students after school each week to read a selection of books and practice comprehension questions.
As a culminating event, both teams participated in the FCS Reading Bowl District Competition on Monday, May 13th at the Board of Education. During the competition, students were tested on their knowledge of the books in a quiz bowl format.
Pepperell Elementary School emerged victorious in the first-ever School District Reading Bowl Competition. Armuchee Elementary was a close runner-up, answering only three fewer questions than the winning team. Both teams’ hard work, dedication, and passion for reading were displayed and evident during the competition.
