The Georgia Department of Transportation’s Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant Program has awarded Floyd County a $180,000 safety grant that will go toward improving road safety around the area.

Floyd County will match the funds 30% and will go toward installing rumble strips on Blacks Bluff Road from the bypass to Highway 100.  Additional rumble strips will be placed along Calhoun Road from the bypass to Highway 53.

WRGA radio reported that the rumble strips will be cut next week.  After they are cut the county will have a contractor come in and place down thermoplastic striping.

Road striping will also be placed along Old Dalton, Woods, Ward Mountain and Padlock Mountain roads.

The county was also awarded a rubberized asphalt grant from the Georgia Environment Protection Division.  Those funds will be used for test paving a little over half a mile on Terhune Road.
