During Monday’s meeting, the Floyd County Board of Education unanimously approved the purchase of new computers, track and field equipment, and a new math curriculum for fifth-grade students.
The estimated cost to buy new PCs and Chromebooks for both students and staff will be $609,464. The system is looking to replace 1,400 Chromebooks and 200 PCs.
The field equipment, for up to $225,000, will be for all four high schools to host track meets on their new synthetic track and fields.
The new curriculum will cost $130,864.
The board also looked at adding a weight room at Armuchee High School so that its current one could possibly be repurposed as new classrooms that could allow for the 6th grade to move to the building.
According to Superintendent Glenn White, if approved, it would not happen until the 2025-2026 school year.
