On February 20th, just before 11 pm, Calhoun Police responded to the Rodeway Inn on Highway 53 in reference to a man pointing a gun at someone in the parking lot.  While enroute, 911  notified officers that the suspect had fled the scene but could be returning.

Prior to officers arriving, the suspect, did in fact return.  Officers began to speak with a female complainant who told them that she was coming home from work and was attempting to go into her room when she saw the suspect.

It was then, the suspect yelled “Hey!” and quickly displayed a black rifle.  The victim told police that the suspect proceeded to point the gun at her and another man. It was at that point both victims began to “run for their lives”.

Officers proceeded to speak to the male victim and he was able to tell them the same chain of events.

A second officer then located 55 year old Patrick McDonald of Calhoun, who said he was being set up by the two individuals.  Officers stated that McDonald told them that is why he left the scene.  Police added that while speaking with McDonald they detected alcohol coming from his breath while “Struggling to tell his part of the story”.

Police then observed surveillance footage from the hotel to verify the victim’s accounts of what happened.

Officers then said that they attempted to obtain McDonald’s ID from his hotel room he advised them that there was a male and female in his room that he did not know.  Officers then proceeded to do a safety sweep of the room.  It was then they were able to locate a bag of suspected methamphetamine.

McDonald is charged with  two counts of aggravated assault, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, trafficking in methamphetamine or amphetamine, and two counts of possession of firearm or knife during commission of a crime, as well as misdemeanors including two counts of pointing a gun at another, public drunkenness, and possession and use of drug related objects.
