Nicholas Dimetrious Alexander Butts, 31 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he robbed the Family Savings Credit Union at the West Rome Walmart.

Repors said that on Wenesday around 1 pm officers were dispatched to an armed robbery in progress at the credit union. The callers advised that a male, matching the description from a previous armed robbery, was actively demanding money and making threats.

As officers were en route the callers kept an eye on the suspect and were able to relay information such as clothing description and vehicle information. The vehicle was described as a silver Dodge Charger with “star” shaped wheels and one spare wheel. Police added that when they attempted to stop the suspect he ignored the traffic control device and turned east onto Shorter Ave.

Officers proceeded to follow the suspect’s vehicle with lights and sirens activated. The suspect vehicle continued to travel east in the inside lane. During the pursuit, officers stated that the driver began to make hand gestures out of the window as if he was waving to a crowd or motioning him around while driving at a slow pace.

Authorities then performed a PIT Maneuver, spinning the vehicle to the right where it came to a stop. The driver then bailed and ran into the middle of the roadway and then fled on foot north toward the railroad tracks that cross Kirton St.

He was eventually and then successfully taken into custody without further incident.

Reports did stated that he did strike his head on the railroad surface as a result of the taser deployment. Inside the vehicle was several boxes of vapes, which was what was taken in the first robbery.

Following the foot chase the suspect vehicle rolled forward and struck a patrol car, causing slight damage to the push bumper.

Butts is accused of stealing $4,468 from the establishment.

The first burglary, which occured on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m was at 204 N. Elm St, Elm Street Food & Beverage. It was there reports said that Butts used a gun to steal between $400-$500.00 dollars, 6 Juicy Bar 5000 Vape cartridges, valued
at $10 per cartridge, 3 Fruit Candy, 2 Black & Blue Berry, and one Sakura Grape all valued at $60.00.

Butts is charged with robbery, attempting to elude police, interference with government property, DUI, removal of an electronic monitoring device, DUI and probation violation.

At approximately 1:06pm on Wednesday January 24, 2023, a call was received regarding a potential armed robbery situation at the Credit Union located inside the West Rome Walmart.

The situation led to a foot chase and K9 involvement, and with the partnership of the Georgia State Patrol and Floyd County Police Department, the suspect was apprehended.

Said suspect is undergoing medical clearance at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center. More details will be forthcoming as they become available.
