Nakiya Tiyese Whitaker, 25 of Lindale, was arrested this week after police said they found her in possession of a large amount of marijuana that was packaged for distribution during a traffic stop for speeding.

Police said that they pulled Whitaker over on Shorter Avenue near Willaims Street for driving at speeds of over 60 mph in a 40 mph zone.

While speaking with Whitaker, officers said that a strong odor of marijuana was coming from her vehicle.  A search then resulted in officers finding marijuana, narcotics that was packaged in individual baggies, and a gun.

Whitaker is then accused of refusing to place her hands behind her back when asked to do so.

After arriving at the jail, Whitaker was allegedly found with additional marijuana in her possession.

Whitaker is charged with speeding, three counts obstruction, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug related objects, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and unlawful possession of drugs by an inmate.
