The Georgia State Patrol said that a wreck on Highway 27 near Scott Hill Road in Gore (Chattooga County) on Friday resulted in the death of a Rome Man and a Walker County teacher.
Report said that a northbound Jeep, driven by David Lopez, crossed over the median and struck a southbound 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by teacher Lori McWhorter.
McWhorter was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lopez was transported to a Rome hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
McWhorter was a teacher at LaFayette High School and was the school system’s 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year.
