The widower of fallen Polk County Police Detective Kristen Hearne, Matthew Christopher Hearne, 39 of Cedartown, has been arrested and jailed after he was charged with impersonating a police officer.
Reports said that Hearne was allegedly identifying himself as Buchanan police chief while sending harassing communications to his ex-wife.
Hearne, who remarried after Kristen’s death, had been an officer with the Buchanan Police Department but was not employed with the agency at the time of his arrest.
Hearne is charged with impersonating a public officer or employee, identity theft, violation of oath by a public officer, and harassing communications.
The arrest comes three days after the sixth anniversary of his wife’s death. Kristen was shot and killed while investigating an abandoned vehicle near the Polk/Floyd County line in 2017.
