Dennis Roy Mulkey, 35 of Adairsville, was arrested this week after reports said he hit his ex-wife in the face with an open palm.
The victim also told police that Mulkey attempted to keep her from calling 911 by grabbing her cellphone and throwing it on the ground.
The incident occurred at a restaurant on Turner McCall Blvd.
Mulkey is charged with simple battery and obstruction of a person making a 911 call.
