Joshua Allen Moates, 33 of Taylorsville, was arrested in Rome after reports said he identified himself as a federal agent while found allegedly attempting to burglarize a home on East 4th Avenue.

Reports said that Moates was found knocking on the door and looking into the windows of the home before attempting to open the front door.  When the victim and a neighbor asked who he was, he told them that he was a federal agent.   When they asked to see his credentials, he refused.

Authorities said that Moates then fled the scene.

The incident occurred back on March 19th.

He was later captured in Bartow County and extradited back to Rome this week.

Moates is charged with impersonating a public officer, loitering, criminal trespass,  attempting to elude police, failure to obey traffic control device and reckless driving.
