Calhoun police is investigating the shooting death of a 6 year-old child.

Reports said that authorities were dispatched to a home on Neal Street around 3 am Saturday morning in response to a shooting.

Police added that the child’s mother told them that they both went outside to let the dog use the bathroom and he came back saying he found a toy and went inside.

The mother went on to say that the child went into her room when she heard a “pop.” She said when she went to check on him, when she walked in she saw that the child had been shot in the head with a 9mm Taurus handgun.  According to Chief Tony Pyle, the incident is still under investigation
