Floyd County Police is looking into a “suspicious” death that occurred at 77 Baker Street home in the Shannon community on Thursday.

Reports said that authorities were dispatched to a home just before 6am Thursday.  Once on the scene, EMS crews began life saving measures for a woman, identified as 34-year-old Kayla Cherie Gettrost, who was in distress.

Authorities went on to say that they first thought that the woman had taken her own life, but Deputy Coroner John Hamilton later said that the evidence did not indicate such.

Police Maj. Jeff Jones says the death “appears suspicious” and there is a person of interest in the case.

Check back later as details become available.

Update:

Carl Von Gettrost, 42 of Rome, who is a convicted felon, and whose address is listed at 77 Baker Street, was arrested at 25 Fifth Street in Calhoun after he was found illegally in possession of a High Point .40 caliber handgun.
