The Georgia High School Association voted this week to require student-athletes to play on teams that are determined by sex on their birth certificate, rather than what they claim as their gender identity.

The GHSA did say that girls who want to play a sport that is not offered to girls, such as football or baseball, can do so.

The move comes following the passing of HB 1084, which deferred the decision on how to handle transgender athletes to the state’s athletic association.
