Harold Cruz, 20 of Rome, was arrested this week after police said he slapped a six-month-old child in the face, leaving visible injuries.
Reports stated that the attack occurred in front of a three and five-year-old child.
Cruz is charged with battery, reckless conduct, thee counts cruelty to children in the third degree and cruelty to children in the first degree.
