Rainy Winston Lewis, 34 of Cartersville, was arrested in Rome this week after reports said he grabbed his girlfriend by the throat and held her against the wall.
The victim then told police that Lewis grabbed her cellphone in an effort to prevent her from calling 911 for help.
The incident occurred at a location on West 2nd Street.
Lewis is charged with aggravated assault and obstruction of a person calling 911.
